Women's Basketball Picked Fifth in Skyline Preseason Coaches Poll

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's basketball team has been selected to finish in fifth place by the Skyline Conference Preseason Basketball Coaches Poll released earlier today.

After assembling a 16-10 overall mark and 12-6 in league play, good for fourth place last season, the Bears collected 64 points and were predicted a repeat appearance in the conference tournament.

United States Merchant Marine Academy (93 points) was picked to repeat as champion and NCAA second-round participant Mount Saint Mary (89 points) was predicted to repeat as runner-up, both receiving four of the 11 first-place votes.

Conference returnee Manhattanville College (86 points) received the remaining three first-place votes and were tapped to finish third while SUNY College at Old Westbury (74 points) was picked fourth. 

Purchase College (51 points), who the Bears met in the 2019 Skyline Championship first round, rounds out the predicted six-team field for the 2020 Skyline Conference Women's Basketball Championship that begins on February 25, with the semifinals and final taking place February 27 and 29, respectively. 

St. Joseph's opens its 2019-20 campaign this Saturday, November 9 heading to Manhattan for a road test against 2019 ECAC Champion New York University at Hunter College tipping off at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at SJCBears.com/live.
