Seniors Combine to Score 44 Points in Women’s Basketball Defeat to Manhattanville

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The senior trio of Ayomide Adeoye (Brooklyn, N.Y./Edward R. Murrow),  Emma Kiley (Whitestone, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), and Alexis Breen (Union Beach, N.J./Keyport) combined to score 44 points and grab 31 rebounds. However, the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's basketball team fell to Manhattanville College on Tuesday night, 81-62.

Kiley registered a pair of blocks, becoming the first-known Bears basketball player – male or female – to reach 200 career blocks. With her 17 points, the center finds herself seven points away from reaching 1000 for her career with one more regular season game remaining.

How it Happened

The Valiants (19-3, 15-2) opened the game on a 6-0 run. They would not surrender their lead as it grew to 12, 23-11, in the first quarter. Adeoye, Kiley, and Grace Kennedy (Maspeth, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) totaled 16 of the Bears' (11-11, 8-9) 28 points in the first half but it wasn't enough to close the halftime gap from 47-28.

Manhattanville held a lead of 20-plus for much of the second half. Kiley would score 13 points between the third and fourth quarters while Adeoye dropped 11 and pulled 13 rebounds. Ultimately, the visitors would claim the 81-62 result.

For the Bears

  • Adeoye's scoring and rebounding totals were both single-game career highs.
  • Kiley, the reigning Skyline Player of the Week, finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds.
  • Breen logged her seventh double-figure scoring game.
  • Kennedy finished with eight points and three rebounds.
  • Kristen Donovan (Maspeth, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) and Katherine Barrios (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) each had four boards.
