Lady Bears Soccer Handed First Loss at St. Joseph’s (L.I.)

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team suffered their first defeat of the season, dropping a 3-0 decision to sister campus St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Thursday night at the SJC Outdoor Complex.

The Golden Eagles (5-2-2) jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead on goals from Michelle Barclay and Elizabeth Pulaski in the first three minutes.

Despite the early tallies, the Lady Bears (1-1-1) kept their sister campus off the board behind the strong play of junior goalkeeper Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport HS).  The reigning Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) rookie of the week made 12 first-half saves and finished with 20 for the full 90 minutes.

Caitlyn Halloran would squeeze one past Farinella in the waning minutes of the first half to push the Long Island lead to 3-0.

Brooklyn struggled to find open looks all game and finished without an official shot.

The Lady Bears will look to rebound as they open HVWAC play on Sunday, September 23 returning to the SJC Outdoor Complex to host Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.  The Bears will kick off the Sunday twinbill at 12 p.m. with the Lady Bears following at 2 p.m.
