Lady Bears Soccer Concludes Successful Rookie Campaign With 6-1 Triumph Over Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Junior Daniela Semilia (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) recorded her first career hat trick, freshman Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, NY/Leon M. Goldstein) tallied five points and Daniella Valencia (Corona, NY/Bayside) scored twice to propel the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team to a 6-1 non-conference victory over Yeshiva University in their 2012 season finale on Sunday afternoon at Aviator Field.

The Lady Bears wrap up their inaugural season with a 7-4-2 record and as Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) champions. Yeshiva concludes their season with a 1-12 record.

Semilia, Chernyakhovsky and Valencia were the first Lady Bear selections to the HVWAC All-Confernence Team named last week.

Playing up from her normal position on the Lady Bears' back line, Semilia wasted no time finding her touch on offense, showing some finesse and scoring on a chip shot over the goalie from the top of the box in the very first minute of the contest.  Semilia tallied goals in the 14th and 29th minutes to complete the hat trick in the first half helping the Lady Bears to a 4-0 halftime lead.

Chernyakhovsky scored her 11th goal of the season in the 18th minute intercepting a goalie clear at midfield and firing a shot from 35 yards out over the retreating goalkeeper.

Chernyakhovsky would finish with three assists on the morning, helping on Semilia's first goal and springing Valencia with throughballs that set up breakaways to open the second-half scoring.  Valencia's tallies in the 67th and 69th minutes were her fourth and fifth of the season, giving the Lady Bears a 6-0 lead.

Yeshiva maintained a 25-20 edge in shots and spoiled the Lady Bears shutout scoring with under five minutes left in regulation.  Natasha Bassalian's shot from the right edge of the box was initially saved by substitute goalkeeper Shannon Rom (Rockaway Point, NY/Bishop Kearney), making her first appearance in net, but trickled past the goal line for the Maccabees lone goal.

Junior Nicole Farinella (East Patchogue, NY/Bellport HS) made seven saves and earned the win in goal for the Lady Bears.
