Women's Soccer Blanks Yeshiva in HVIAC Opener

YONKERS, N.Y. – Led by a four-goal, two-assist effort from junior Pamela Chernyakhovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein), the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team improved to 3-0 with a 7-0 shutout of Yeshiva on Monday night at Tibbets Brook Park in their Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener.

The Lady Bears are off to their best start in their three-year history and have scored 29 goals through the opening three games. They improve to 4-0 all-time against Yeshiva (0-7).

The hat-trick was Chernyakhovsky's second of her career. Freshman Cansu Usta (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fort Hamilton) scored twice, boosting her tally to a team-leading 10 goals and senior Shannon Rom (Breezy Point, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) scored once and assisted on two goals.

Chernyakhovsky opened the scoring in the 8th minute as the Lady Bears scored three quick goals in a span of just over eight minutes to carry a 3-0 lead at the break.

In the second half, St. Joseph's leveraged a 10-0 corner kick differential and scored three goals off corners, two off Chernyakhovsky deliveries and another direct off the corner that completed the hat trick.

St. Joseph's outshot Yeshiva 39-2 for the contest and held the Maccabees without a shot on goal.

The Lady Bears return home and have a day off before hosting Fisher College on Wednesday, September 17 as part of a doubleheader with the men at Aviator Sports and Events Center. The men face the Falcons at 4 p.m. followed by the women at 6 p.m. Live stats will be available for both games on www.SJCBears.com.
