Women’s Soccer Evens Skyline Record with Loss to SJC Long Island

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Following a come-from-behind victory in their Skyline opener, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (4-5, 1-1) faced off against sibling rival SJC Long Island (2-4, 1-0) at Danzi Stadium on Tuesday night, falling 4-0 and dropping their league record to 1-1.

How It Happened
Freshman goalkeeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) saved the first shot she saw nine minutes into the game but the Golden Eagles got on the board soon after as Christina Gagliardi found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead in the 11th minute. SJCLI kept the ball in Bears' territory as Brooklyn didn't attempt a shot until Deserae Sequeira (Clark, N.J./Arthur L. Johnson) in the 29th minute.

Gagliardi scored her second of the game off of a feed from Samantha Caruso (32') as Long Island controlled the contest early on. The Golden Eagles tacked on another for a 3-0 halftime advantage while they maintained a 12-1 lead in shots at the break. SJCLI put in their fourth tally of the night on a rebound by Carly Credidio (63') and the deficit proved too much for the Bears as the Golden Eagles took victory in their conference opener.

For the Bears

  • Sequeira led the team firing two shots (both on goal) on a slow offensive night.
  • Christina DiBartolo (Middle Village, N.Y./Forest Hills) attempted the team's only other shot (saved).
  • Shaban finished with six saves in the loss.
