Women’s Soccer Takes Program-Best Fifth Place in Loss at Sarah Lawrence

YONKERS, N.Y. — Playing for fourth place and a first-round home game to begin the Skyline Championship, Sarah Lawrence College handed the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team a 5-1 defeat at Fleming Park on Wednesday evening.

Finishing with matching 5-4 league records, the Bears (8-8) and Gryphons (8-7) will meet again in four days in the first round of the Skyline Championship. Originally scheduled for Saturday, inclement weather forecasted for this weekend has pushed back the start of the tournament to Sunday.

How it Happened

The Gryphons scored less than 30 seconds into the game and never looked back. Kiley Ritter found the back of the net in the 20th minute and 34th minutes to ballon the lead to 3-0 at the break.

The hosts scored a pair of tallies in a span of five minutes in the second half that extended the lead to 5-0 and Ritter completed her hat trick for her league-leading 20th goal of the season.

The Bears played a man down for much of the contest due to injuries and Sarah Lawrence held a 19-3 shot advantage and 12-1 edge in corners.

Molic spoiled the shutout with just a shorthanded goal from an odd angle getting the Bears on the board with just over 10 minutes to play, the only shot for the SJC in the second half.

For the Bears

  • Molic scored her 11th goal of the season and extended her point-scoring streak to three games.
  • Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) finished with eight saves.

Next up for the Bears

SJC will make their second straight Skyline Championship appearance and look to avenge tonight's loss with a rematch against Sarah Lawrence on Sunday (Oct. 28). Start time and location to be announced.
