Sarah Lawrence Drops Women’s Soccer in First Round of Skyline Playoffs

YONKERS, N.Y. — Playing in their second Skyline playoff game in as many years, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (8-9, 5-4 Skyline) fell to Sarah Lawrence College (9-7, 5-4 Skyline) 2-0 on the road on Sunday night.

How It Happened
Sarah Lawrence opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Gaia Dennison fired a long pass to Tiffany McBrayer who finished inside the box to the left post for an early 1-0 lead. Neither side made much noise for the remainder of the half while Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht) saved three shots to keep the deficit at one.

The Gryphons outshot SJC 16-0 over the final 45 minutes and McBrayer put in her second tally of the contest to essentially seal victory, launching a shot from 18-yards out that found the back of the net. Sarah Lawrence will now head to Farmingdale State to take on the Rams in the second round of the Skyline Championships.

For the Bears

  • Merima Kokale (Staten Island, N.Y./New Utrecht) attempted the only shot of the game for the Bears.
  • Shaban came away with eight saves in defeat.
