Women’s Soccer Comes Up Short at Skyline Unbeaten Mount Saint Mary

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — After two postponements, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (6-11, 1-8) finally took on Mount Saint Mary College Tuesday night in a Skyline Conference matchup at Kaplan Field in Newburgh. The Bears fell 3-0 despite 14 saves from sophomore keeper Reem Shaban (Brooklyn, N.Y./New Utrecht).

How It Happened
Shaban came away with seven saves over the first 32 minutes of play to keep the first-place tied Knights (8-9-1, 8-0-1) at bay. However, Nikki Carter found Brittany Bornstad with a short pass in the box who fired a shot to the right post and scored to break the gridlock in the 33rd minute.

The 1-0 lead stood at halftime as Shaban added three more saves before the break to keep SJC within striking distance. The Bears' offense was stifled on the road and, in the 64th minute, Bornstad took a corner that was finished on a header from Alexandra Salamone to double the hosts' advantage.

Soon after, Chrissy Cannella became the third different Knight to score in the game as she dribbled from midfield and did it herself for another insurance tally to put away a 3-0 victory.
