Women’s Soccer Blanks Yeshiva in Sunday Matinee

NEW YORK — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's soccer team (5-3-1, 2-2 Skyline) bounced back from a midweek defeat with a shutout of Yeshiva University (0-1-0, 0-1-0 Skyline), 12-0, on Sunday morning from Randall's Island.

Senior captain Christina Di Bartolo (Middle Village, N.Y./Forest Hills) led the way with six goals. Julia Lavelle (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis Academy) bagged her first career hat trick while Briana Gomez (West Hempstead, N.Y./Kellenburg) scored her first collegiate goal.

Heather Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) netted a double, bringing her goal tally to four on the year.

How it Happened

Di Bartolo tapped in a ball that was fed to her by Lavelle in the third minute for the game's opening goal. Four minutes later, Bollmann fired her free-kick past the keeper's right; giving the Bears a 2-0 lead inside 10 minutes.

The 18th minute saw the beginning of a nine-minute stretch in which Di Bartolo scored three goals. The Queens native grabbed two more goals before the break but not before Lavelle found the scoresheet in the 32nd and 33rd minutes.

Already with a 9-0 advantage going into the second period, the Bears hit double-figures in the 56th minute when Bollmann found the back of the net after Sabrina Amadio's (Douglaston, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) initial shot was saved. Gomez scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd thanks to an assist from Bollmann. Lavelle added the finishing touch in the 73rd, confirming the 12-0 full-time result.
