Reis' Highlight, Women’s Soccer’s Comeback Bid Spoiled By Purchase

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's soccer team erased a two-goal deficit to draw even at half but suffered a 3-2 defeat to Purchase College on a rainy Saturday evening at Aviator Sports and Events Center.

How It Happened

Despite an early 3-1 shot advantage and 3-0 in corners for the Bears, Purchase drew first blood in the 22nd minute on a Kristen Purcell goal. The visitors took a 2-0 lead in the 28th minute when Purcell fed Lauren Pudelka for a high arching shot.

Hayden Reis got St. Joseph's on the board with a highlight reel rocket from 45 yards out, finding the upper-right 90. The Bears, who had a 9-5 edge in shots in the period, found the equalizer just before the halftime break as Mia Castaneda (Mamaroneck, N.Y./Mamaroneck) took a through ball from Mary Hall (Rochester, N.Y./West Irondequoit) and fired it past the keeper low right.

Purchase broke the stalemate in the 69th minute on Julieth Velasquez shot from 30 yards out that proved to be the game-winner.
