Three Records Fall But Women's Swimming Edged by SJC Long Island in Skyline Opener

PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — The SJC Brooklyn women's swimming team collected six event wins en route to setting three new program records, but were edged out in the final event by sibling rivals SJC Long Island, 88-81, in a Skyline Conference dual meet on Saturday afternoon.

The Basics

  • Final Scores: SJC Long Island 88, SJC Brooklyn 81
  • Records: SJC Long Island (4-0, 3-0 Skyline), SJC Brooklyn (0-1, 0-1 Skyline)
  • Location: Patchogue, N.Y.
  • Pool: Danzi Athletic Center

How It Happened in the Pool

  • SJC Brooklyn took an early lead winning the opening 200-yard medley relay by 15 seconds with Shannon Doherty, Brianna Minogue, Jillian O'Hara and Morgan Summers breaking a three-year old mark with a time of 2:12.88
  • SJC Long Island would take the next two events to take the lead before Tina Wong won the 100-yard individual medley in 1:15.55 with Julia Dineen coming in third to close the deficit to one, 35-34.
  • Doherty would etch her name in the record book once again, winning the 100-yard freestyle in 1:03.74, breaking a mark that Kristen McMaster '12 set in 2012. Minogue's third place finish in the event drew both teams even at 50-50 after six events.
  • The Lady Bears then jumped ahead again, 61-57, with Summers winning the 100-yard backstroke in 1:09.45.
  • The Golden Eagles then swept the 500-yard freestyle to take back the lead, before O'Hara shattered her personal best by two seconds to win the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:27.83 and both teams entered the final event deadlocked at 77-77.
  • Doherty, Minogue, O'Hara and Summers would swim the fastest 200-yard freestyle relay record in Lady Bears history, nearly breaking the two-minute threshold at 2:00.29, but the second-place finish would hand the Golden Eagles the overall meet.
