Women’s Swimming Notches First Win of Season in Double Dual Split

KINGS POINT, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's swimming team notched a 101-6 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury but fell to host and two-time defending league champions United States Merchant Marine Academy, 121-48, in a Skyline Conference double dual meet on Friday evening.

The Bears collected second-place points in nine events with Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and Valerie Rodriguez (Woodhaven, N.Y./New Utrecht) the top point collectors for the Bears accumulating second-place points in two individual events and one relay event.

SJC Highlights

  • Cosenza swam a personal best in the 200-yard freestyle (2:28.37).
  • Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) posted a personal best in the 500-yard freestyle for the second-straight meet, clocking in at 6:49.00.
  • Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) swam a season best in the 100-yard butterfly, touching the wall in second in 1:09.09.
  • Rodriguez lowered her season best in the 50-yard freestyle to 30.27.

St. Joseph's takes a month hiatus for finals and the holidays jumping back into the pool after the turn of the calendar on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 against Purchase College in a Skyline dual meet.
