Maritime Sails Past Women’s Swimming

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) won four events but it wasn't enough to upend host Maritime College in a Skyline Conference dual meet on Wednesday evening, falling 124-60.

Rebecca Bollmann (Broad Channel, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) was the top point collector for the Bears (2-9, 1-4) earning a first-, second-, and third-place finish.

SJC Highlights

  • Bollmann was victorious in the 100-yard backstroke (1:20.49), runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:30.04), and third in the 50-yard freestyle (30.75).
  • Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) was victorious in the 50-yard freestyle (27.39) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.39).
  • Jessica Gnad (Brooklyn, N.Y./Leon M. Goldstein) notched the third individual event win for the Bears taking the 200-yard individual medley (2:43.97).
  • Kathryn Cosenza (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) posted a pair of second-place finishes in the 100-yard freestyle (1:07.10) and 200-yard freestyle (2:30.20).
  • Doherty, Gnad, Cosenza, and Eireann Corbett (Woodhaven, N.Y,/Monsignor McClancy) teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:36.98).

Next Up for the Bears

St. Joseph's will now set their sights on the Skyline Conference Championships. The two-day event will be held from January 25-26 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
