Women’s Tennis Nets First Win of Season

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team (1-5, 1-1 HVWAC) defeated Medgar Evers College 7-2 in a conference match on Friday afternoon at Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn, NY.

The Lady Bears jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition, earning their first points of the season.  Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra) and Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) led St. Joseph's combining for three points teaming up for an 8-3 win at 1st doubles and then Lintner defeating Marcyenda Cupid 10-3 at 1st singles and Bauman upending Janet Goodwin 10-1 at 2nd singles.

Freshmen Daniela Arango (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Leah Hampton (Brooklyn, NY/St. Joseph's) also went undefeated in the match, picking up their first career victories.  Arango had a 10-0 shutout at 5th singles and Hampton win 10-5 at 6th singles.

Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) split their matches, winning their doubles matches but falling in singles, Shea losing a hard-fought match to Shantee Goggoins at 3rd singles 10-7 and Nealon losing 10-2 at 4th singles.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday, October 13th for a non-conference match against York College.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. at the National Tennis Center in Flushing, NY.
