Women’s Tennis Starts 0-2 With Losses to Purchase and Sarah Lawrence

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team lost to Purchase College (5-1) on Friday night and Sarah Lawrence College (2-0) on Sunday afternoon both by a score of 9-0 to open the 2009 season with a 0-2 record.

Yielding a team comprised of mostly freshman, the team's best performance was turned in by veteran senior Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra).  Lintner lost to Erin Higgins of Purchase at first singles 10-4 and teamed up with Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) for a pair of 8-4 losses at first doubles.  In their first collegiate matches Bauman captured three games at second singles and Daniela Arango (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) also captured three games at fifth singles.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Tuesday, September 22 for a non-conference match against City Tech at 4:00 p.m. played at York College (Jamaica, NY).
