Lady Bears Tennis Sweeps Vaughn

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team (2-7, 2-2 HVWAC) picked up their second win of the season with a shutout 9-0 conference victory over Vaughn College (0-3, 0-3 HVWAC) on Tuesday night at the National Tennis Center.  Senior Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra) posted wins at singles and doubles to extend her winning streak to five.

Lintner and freshman Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) didn't drop a single game in either match both winning 10-0 at 1st and 2nd singles, respectively, and pairing up for an 8-0 victory at 1st doubles.

Two Lady Bears won their first singles matches of the season.  Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) was victorious 10-2 at third doubles and Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) won at love at 4th singles.

In the doubles competition, Melissa Pereira (Queens, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Elizabeth Stein teamed up at 2nd doubles to win their first match of the season 8-0.

The win improves St. Joseph's College to third place in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference.  The Lady Bears will face fourth-place College of New Rochelle (1-6, 1-2 HVWAC) in their final match that will be rescheduled for the upcoming week before the season-ending HVWAC Tournament scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at the National Tennis Center.
