Three Lady Bears Receive HVWAC Weekly Honors

NEW YORK, NY – In weekly reports released by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) earlier today, three Lady Bears were selected for the conference's weekly accolades for contests from October 12-18.  Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra) and Kathleen McCarthy were named Players of the Week in tennis and volleyball, respectively, while Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) was named Rookie of the Week in cross country.

Facing York College in the only tennis match of the week for the Lady Bears, Lintner had a decisive 10-4 win at 1st singles and dropped a close match in a tiebreaker at 1st doubles.  Earlier this week, the senior continued her strong play remaining undefeated against Pratt and Vaughn improving her record to 7-1 over her last eight matches.  This is the first time this season a Lady Bear tennis player has received Player of the Week honors.

McCarthy registered her second career double-double during a hard-fought loss to Brooklyn College.  The junior outside hitter recorded a match-high 11 kills and had 13 digs.  In four matches on the week, McCarthy averaged 3.4 digs and 1.8 kills per set.  McCarthy was named to the conference Honor Roll last week and was selected as Rookie of the Week in the second week of the season.

Running in cold, wet conditions at the Hunter College Invitational, Mangan paced the Lady Bears around the 6K course, just missing out on a top 10 finish taking 11th place crossing the line in 29:59.  This is the fourth time that the freshman runner has received the Rookie of the Week honors this season.
