Lady Cardinals Fly Past Lady Bears

FLUSHING, NY – Playing on a cool fall night at the National Tennis Center, the St. Joseph's College women's tennis team was unable to string together their first winning streak of the season, dropping an 8-1 decision to York College on Tuesday evening.

Senior Jessica Lintner (Queens, NY/Frank Sinatra), playing on her 21st birthday, turned in the best performance for St. Joseph's winning her second straight singles match 10-4 over Valerie Roland at first singles.  She teamed up with Kristin Bauman at first doubles losing a hard fought match in a tiebreaker.

At second singles, Bauman lost a close match to Allana Wilson 10-7.  Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Elizabeth Stein also fell in a close match at third doubles, losing 8-6.

The loss drops the Lady Bears to 1-6 while the Lady Cardinals improve to 4-5.  St. Joseph's returns to action to host College of New Rochelle on Friday, October 16 at the National Tennis Center.  Both teams are tied for third place in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC).  Start time is 6 p.m.  The Lady Bears have three matches remaining, all HVWAC showdowns, before the conference tournament on Saturday, October 24th.
