Women's Tennis Closes Regular Season on Three Game Win Streak

FLUSHING, NY - The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team defeated Vaughn College 9-0 Tuesday night, the third straight win for the team. The Lady Bears finish their regular season with a 4-6 (3-2 HVWAC) record while Vaughn drops to 0-4 (0-4 HVWAC).

Sophomore Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge) led the Lady Bears with a 10-3 victory over Vaughn's Meryl Kiniry at #1 singles. Senior Christine Parker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) took the #2 singles match 10-1, overpowering Taniqua Crawford. Freshman Cassandra Rivera defeated Jeisel Gonzalez 10-2 at #3 singles.

Senior Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney), Junior Darcy Crimi (Glendale, NY/Christ the King), and last week's HVWAC Tennis Co-Player of the week Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) all delivered 10-0 shutouts in their singles matches.

In the doubles competition, with the outcome of the team match already decided, St. Joseph's shut out Vaughn 8-0 in all three flights. Sophomore Elizabeth Stein (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep), who sat out in singles teamed up with Christine Parker at #3 doubles.

St. Joseph's concludes their 2010 season at the HVWAC Championships. The tournament takes place Saturday, October 30th at the National Tennis Center at 10 a.m.
