Lady Bears Dispatch City Tech for Second Win of Season

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team defeated City Tech, 5-4, in a non-conference match on a brisk Thursday night at the National Tennis Center. The Lady Bears improve to 2-6 while City Tech falls to 1-10.

Sophomore Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) paced the Lady Bears in victory earning a decisive 10-1 victory at #5 singles and pairing up with Cassandra Rivera for an 8-1 victory at #3 doubles that clinched the team win.

St. Joseph's captured four of the six singles matches with sophomore Kristin Bauman winning 10-6 at #1 singles, Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) winning 10-3 at #4 singles and Elizabeth Stein (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) earning her first victory of the season with a 10-2 triumph at #6 singles.

With the team match outcome already decided, Bauman and Darcy Crimi (Glendale, NY/Christ the King) fell at #1 doubles in a see-saw match that ended in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (12-9).

St. Joseph's returns to the courts on Friday, October 22 squaring off against Medgar Evers College in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference matchup at Lincoln Terrace Park starting at 5 p.m.
