Women’s Tennis Captures Second Straight Win Defeating Medgar Evers

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team defeated Medgar Evers College on Friday night, 6-3, in a Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference match. The Lady Bears improve to 3-6 (2-2 HVWAC) and move up to 3rd place in the conference.

Christine Parker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep), Cassandra Rivera, Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) and Elizabeth Stein (Forest Hills, NY/St. Francis Prep) each turned in strong performances winning both their singles and doubles matches. Parker earned a 10-5 victory at #1 singles and later paired up with Stein, who captured a 10-2 victory at #4 singles, for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles.

Rivera captured her first singles victory in dominating fashion, winning at love at #2 singles. Nealon took a 10-4 win at #3 singles for her third singles win in her last four matches. The two paired up at #2 doubles for an 8-3 win.

St. Joseph's concludes their 2010 regular season squaring off against Vaughn College in an HVWAC matchup on Tuesday night at the National Tennis Center starting at 7 p.m.
