Lady Bears Capture First Win of Season

NEW ROCHELLE, NY - The St. Joseph's College women's tennis team celebrated their first victory of the season, 6-1, on Friday against conference rival New Rochelle. Junior Darcy Crimi (Glendale, NY/Christ the King) had a hand in two of the victories, winning her singles match 9-0 and teaming with senior Christine Parker (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) to win 1st doubles 8-3. The team is now 1-5 on the season.

Cassandra Rivera played a part in two of St. Joseph's wins, pairing with sophomore Shameka Thomas at 2nd doubles and winning her singles match 7-2. The match was cut short due to darkness. Senior Elizabeth Shea (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) and junior Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) also had strong showings, winning at 3rd and 4th singles 10-1 and 10-0.

The team looks to carry the momentum into their next match on Tuesday at Pratt with first serve slated to begin at 7:30 p.m.
