Lady Bears Sweep Vaughn, Clinch 3rd Place in HVWAC

FLUSHING, NY – St. Joseph's women's tennis ends their season on a two match winning streak heading into the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Tournament. Their sweep over Vaughn Wednesday night secured them third place in the conference standings and put their record at 5-5 for the season.

Junior Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) continued her successful first season with her third consecutive win playing at #5 singles. She partnered earlier with Caitlyn Kakavas (Bayside, NY/St. Agnes) for a win at #2 doubles as well. Fellow junior Stephanie Quick (Queens, NY/Stella Maris) earned the first victory of her career. She pulled through for a 10-0 victory at #4 singles.

Sophomore Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) stepped up playing at first singles and doubles and took home victories in both. Her 10-1 triumph was her first career win at #1 singles. Kakavas and Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) won their singles matches as well.

At 5-5, the Lady Bears conclude the season with their highest winning percentage in five years. They also enter the HVWAC tournament having won five of their last eight matches.

With the regular season now complete, St. Joseph's gears up for the Hudson Valley Tournament on Saturday, October 29th at Purchase College. Rain date is scheduled for the following morning, Sunday October 30th at 10:00 am.
