Lady Bears Tennis Overpowered by Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team was swept by borough rivals Brooklyn College, 9-0, on Friday afternoon at the Roosevelt Courts.

Host Brooklyn College (6-2) jumped out to a quick lead after doubles play winning two matches at love with junior Krysta Verdone (Miller Place, NY/Miller HS) and senior Patricia Nealon (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) teaming up at #2 doubles and taking three games off their opponent, before dropping an 8-3 decision.

Nealon would record the most competitive match of the singles session, falling 6-3, 6-0 at #4 singles. Sophomore Victoria LaBosco (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Verdone managed to secure a game off their opponents at #2 and #3 singles, respectively. 

Senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) played a hard-fought match at #1 singles, but was no match for her opponent Yuliya Orkis who has compiled a perfect 19-0 in her collegiate singles career and has dropped only one game this season.

St. Joseph's (1-2) returns to the courts on Tuesday, October 9th hosting John Jay College for a non-conference match at the US National Tennis Center.
