Lady Bears Tennis Snaps Skid With 7-2 Triumph Over Cooper Union

FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team snapped a five-game skid upending Cooper Union, 7-2, at the US National Tennis Center on Thursday evening.

St. Joseph's (2-5, 1-2 HVWAC) captured five of the six singles matches to clinch the victory. Junior Krysta Verdone (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place HS) was dominant in her 10-0 shutout victory at No. 3 singles.

Seniors Stephanie Quick (Howard Beach, NY/Stella Maris) and Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) added convincing wins, Quick winning by a 10-1 margin at No. 5 singles and Mangan 10-2 at No. 6 singles.

Junior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) and senior Danielle Marino (Maspeth, NY/Mary Louis) had slightly more difficulty in getting past their opponents each winning by a break. McNamee victorious at No. 2 singles, 11-9, and Marino at No. 4 singles, 10-8.

In doubles play, Verdone and Mangan paired up for an 8-1 win at the No. 2 flight while Marino and Quick captured an 8-5 triumph in the No. 3 slot.

The Lady Bears return to action on Friday, October 19th, resuming Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference play taking on the College of New Rochelle at Beckwith Pointe starting at 4 p.m.
