Women's Tennis Overpowered By Regular Season Champion Pratt

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Clinching their third straight Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season title, Pratt Institute handed the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team a 9-0 defeat on Friday evening at the USTA Billy Jean King National Tennis Center.

The Lady Bears (1-8, 0-3 HVIAC) remain winless in league play while the Cannoneers (9-2, 4-0 HVIAC) complete their second straight unblemished conference campaign.

After a strong showing in the win over CCNY, freshman Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) made her debut at No. 1 singles but was overpowered by five-time HVIAC award winner and reigning Rookie of the Week Agata Jakubowska in a 10-1 defeat.

Senior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, N.Y./Mary Louis) dropped a 10-3 decision at No. 2 singles while sophomore Deirdre Lavelle (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall) turned in the closest matches of the evening falling 10-4 at No. 5 singles and teaming up with Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) for an 8-4 loss at No. 3 doubles.

St. Joseph's will close out their 2013 regular season campaign on Sunday, October 20 hosting Vaughn College at the USTA National Tennis Center in an HVIAC match starting at 4 p.m.
