FLUSHING, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's (Brooklyn) women's tennis team fought back trailing by three matches, but could not finish the comeback as they dropped a 5-4 decision to Lehman Tuesday night at the USTA National Tennis Center.

St. Joseph's (0-4) fell behind 2-1 after doubles competition. The team of Samantha Rossi (Bayside, N.Y./Mary Louis) and Mary Edward (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) secured the lone doubles victory for the Lady Bears at No. 2 doubles, 8-3.

In singles play, the Lightning (2-4) registered the first two victories at No.2 and No. 6 which put them up 4-1. St. Joseph's would rally back with back-to-back wins by both Madeline Moravek (Whitestone, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) 6-1, 6-2 and Victoria LoBosco (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) 6-4, 6-3.

The No. 1 singles match featured an exciting matchup, with Tathiana Pierre (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Ford) taking the first set 6-2. Lynessa George would then battle back for Lehman to force a third set with a 6-4 win. It all came down to a super tiebreaker, where George would prevail 10-5 to secure the victory for the Lightning.

Edward took a singles bout in No. 4 singles play in a 6-4, 6-2 win, the only Lady Bear to win both of her singles and doubles matches.

St. Joseph's looks to snap a four-match losing streak when they go on the road and take on Kean University on October 3rd. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
