Trerotola Garners All-Skyline Conference First Team Honors

NEW YORK — Leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) lineup throughout the entire season, sophomore Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) has been named to the Skyline Women's Tennis All-Conference First Team as announced by the league office this afternoon.

"With all of the hard work that Denise has put into this season, both on and off the court, this award comes well-deserved," commented Head Coach Daniel Drossman on the selection.  "She is a leader and motivator, and is a prime example of how determination, dedication, and persistence pays off.  I couldn't be more proud for her and what she represents for St. Joseph's College."

Trerotola notched two huge victories late in the season against the top players from Farmingdale State and SJC Long Island, coming back in both No. 1 singles matches after dropping the opening set.

Her triumph over Priscilla Signore of Farmingdale was a career win, losing the opening set at love and falling behind a break in set two before breaking back and forcing a tiebreaker. The team's co-captain never trailed in the second-set tiebreaker to level the match and dominated in the third-set super-tiebreaker winning 10-2 to notch one of only two singles wins over Signore in Skyline play this season. Signore collected the third Most Outstanding Player award of her career yesterday, leading Farmingdale State to the Skyline Conference title for the fourth straight year.

After the career-defining victory, Trerotola went on to win two of her last three singles contests and finished 5-7 in singles and 4-9 in doubles, playing in the top slot for the Bears all season.

"We are very proud of the season that Denise had, representing St. Joseph's College Brooklyn in a positive light each day she took the court, this Skyline award is a fitting recognition for her efforts," remarked Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally on Trerotola, who also serves on the Bears Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. "Denise is an extremely hard-working student-athlete, and the future of the women's tennis program is bright with her strong athletic and leadership skills."

At the midpoint of her collegiate career, the sophomore currently has 11 singles victories stands tied for third, just five wins shy of tying the Bears all-time record.

The All-Skyline selection is the first in program history since joining the league last season and is just the fourth first-team honor garnered by a Bear in any sport to date.

Trerotola and the St. Joseph's College women's tennis team will look to improve upon their best finish in the Skyline Conference after taking seventh place this season.
