Women’s Tennis Edges Defending Champion Yeshiva in Opener

BRONX, N.Y. — Senior Denise Trerotola (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Saviour) won both of her matches at the top of the lineup to lead the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team to a 5-4 victory over Yeshiva University in their home and Skyline Conference opener on Friday morning.

How it Happened

The defending champs spotted the Bears two points, defaulting the matches at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The squads split the remaining two doubles matches of the opening session, with Denise Trerotola and Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) holding on for an 8-6 win in the top pairs match to maintain a 3-1 lead headed to singles.

Entering singles play, the Maccabees surrendered just two games in straight set wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to level the overall match at 3-3. Trerotola then closed out Bailey Frohlich in the lead singles match, 6-3, 6-0, to put the Bears back on top and Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) clinched the victory Yeshiva with a 7-5, 7-5 triumph in the No. 3 position.
