Farmingdale State Spoils Women’s Tennis Home Opener

FLUSHING, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's tennis team (2-4, 0-2) dropped their second-straight falling 9-0 to Farmingdale State College (7-1, 2-0) in Skyline Conference action on Tuesday evening at the USTA National Tennis Center.

How it Happened

Sophomore Ashleigh Hartwig (Santee, Calif./West Hills) took just her second singles loss of the season making her first appearance in the No. 1 spot for the Bears, falling 6-3, 6-2.

Seniors Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) and Daniella Alva (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) took teamed up to take three games at No. 2 doubles in the closest match of the session, 8-3.

The Bears are back on the road on Saturday, September 28 for a matchup with 2018 Skyline runner-up and 2019 preseason favorite Purchase College (1-4, 1-1 Skyline). First serve in Purchase, N.Y. is set for 1 p.m.
