Volleyball Sweeps St. Joseph's - LI Tournament and Defeats New Rochelle, Increases Streak to 10

After being snubbed from a bid to compete in the USCAA national tournament, the Lady Bears showed their resilience and continued their dominant play winning 3 matches on the week, all straight set victories.

On Saturday, the Lady Bears travelled to Patchogue, LI to compete in the St. Joseph's - L.I. Tournament. Both scheduled matches were against Farmingdale State and St. Joseph's - L.I., both opponents having faced earlier in the season and the latter accounting for one of the four losses this season. The Lady Bears dispatched Farmingdale State fairly easily by a score of 25-13, 25-8, 25-11, considering they dropped a set to them in the first matchup. Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY / Midwood) led the attack with 14 kills, Tamara Bulatovic (Queens, NY / Grover Cleveland) added 14 service aces, and Jaime Mascetti (Queens, NY / St. John's Prep) dished out 24 assists in the win.

In the second match, the Lady Bears would avenge their 5 set home loss earlier in the season against their cross-campus rival, winning this time by a much closer margin of 25-21, 25-20, 25-23. The Lady Bears employed a balanced attack and solid defense to gain the advantage over the Patchogue campus. Tamara Bulatovic led all attackers with a match high 9 kills, Yliane Ulloa had 7 kills, and Bala Huseinovic (Brooklyn, NY / New Utrecht) had 6 kills. On the defensive end, 5 Lady Bears recorded double digit digs with freshman libero Victoria Curran (Queens, NY / Mary Louis) leading the team with 17 digs. Bulatovic was also stellar defensively with 7 solo blocks and 12 digs.

On Monday night, the team travelled north to New Rochelle, NY to complete their fourth straight undefeated regular season in Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference play, defeating the College of New Rochelle Blue Angels by a score of 25-15, 25-18, 25-13. Bulatovic and Ulloa led the attack once again, with 11 and 10 kills respectively and setter Jaime Mascetti had 24 assists and 4 service aces.

The three wins improve the Lady Bears overall record to 14-4 and 6-0 in conference play. During their 10 match win streak, which will span a full month when they play their next match, the Lady Bears have only dropped 2 sets.

The Lady Bears return to action at home on Monday, October 27 to face the Purchase College Panthers. The team will also be celebrating Senior Night to recognize the successful careers of the graduating seniors. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 PM and will take place at Brooklyn Technical High School.
