Curran Posts Near Triple-Double In Loss To CSI

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The College of Staten Island Dolphins (9-12) utilized a balanced attack to defeat the St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team in straight sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-15) at the CSI Sports & Recreation Center on Wednesday night.  Victoria Curran (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) led St. Joseph's, falling one dig shy of her first career triple double in a losing effort.

St. Joseph's started the match on a positive note jumping out to a 5-0 lead with Curran serving four straight aces during the run.  After a pair of sideouts, the Dolphins scored six straight points to take the lead back and never looked back.

St. Joseph's held leads early in the final two frames, but couldn't keep up with the Dolphin offense which hit .226 for the match and held a 28-13 kill advantage.

Curran finished with 10 assists, 10 aces and nine digs.  Kathleen McCarthy led the attack with eight kills and had nine digs.  Melissa Simo (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) led the defense with a match-high 12 digs and also chipped in four kills.

Staten Island was led by Samantha Fink with nine kills and Alba Basha with 22 assists.  Two Dolphins finished with double-digit digs.

The loss drops St. Joseph's to 3-11.  The Lady Bears look to break their nine-game skid hosting Old Westbury and Brooklyn College in a non-conference tri-match this Saturday, October 12 at Brooklyn Technical High School.  St. Joseph's will square off against Old Westbury in the opener at 12 p.m. and face Brooklyn College in the final match at approximately 3 p.m.
