Lady Bears Skid Extends To Five

BROOKLYN, NY – In front of a spirited crowd celebrating Alumni Night, the St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team (3-8, 1-2 HVWAC) fell in straight-sets (28-26, 25-14, 25-15) to College of New Rochelle (7-5, 4-0 HVWAC) in a key conference showdown on Tuesday evening at Brooklyn Technical High School.  The loss extends the Lady Bears losing streak to five matches.

The Lady Bears fell behind by early in the set and trailed the entire frame until facing set point at 24-18. After an attack error by the Blue Angels, Melissa Simo (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood) served six straight points to equalize the set and give St. Joseph's their own set point, igniting the crowd.  The Lady Bears were unable to capitalize and steal the set away from New Rochelle, ultimately falling 28-26.

With the momentum back in New Rochelle's favor, the Blue Angels never trailed in the second stanza winning 25-14.  In the final set, St. Joseph's held their second lead of the game at 9-8, but it would be short-lived as the Blue Angels rolled off the next nine points to take the lead and never look back.

St. Joseph's needed a win to keep their hopes alive for their sixth straight regular season title.  With the loss, New Rochelle remains undefeated in conference play and clinches the regular season crown.

Christina Indart (Brooklyn, NY/St. Saviour) led St. Joseph's with five kills and added 10 digs.  Kathleen McCarthy chipped in a season-high 22 digs and had four kills and three aces.  Victoria Curran (Queens, NY/Mary Louis) had 19 digs and seven assists.  Simo finished with a career-high 18 kills and had four kills.

Elizabeth Johnston led New Rochelle with 17 digs and nine kills.  Patrice Marshall added seven kills.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Thursday night making the short trip to face Pratt (3-2, 1-1 HVWAC) in a conference matchup.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
