Women’s Volleyball Falls to Lehman on Senior Night

BROOKLYN, NY – Playing Lehman College for the second time in less than a week, the St. Joseph's College women's volleyball team lost 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-17) to the Lightning on Friday night in the final home game for seniors Yliane Ulloa (Queens, NY/Midwood), Melissa Simo (Brooklyn, NY/Midwood), Kathy McCarthy (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) and Lauren Norris (Sunnyside, NY/Long Island City).

St. Joseph's put forth an inspired effort in front of the largest crowd of the season, but Lehman dominated the contest, never trailing in the match. The Lady Bears got off to slow starts and made late runs in the second and third stanzas hoping to extend the match. Lehman dominated offensively combining for 32 kills compared to the Lady Bears 13.

Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) led St. Joseph's with four kills while Ulloa, McCarthy and Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) contributed three kills each. McCarthy also served up a team-high four aces.

The Lady Bears conclude their regular season with a 6-18 record, doubling the win total from last season. St. Joseph's currently sits in 5th place in the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference and await their quarterfinal round opponent when the 2010 HVWAC Tournament begins on Thursday, October 28. In probably the closest season in HVWAC history, their opponent won't be known until Tuesday night after the final conference match has been played between Yeshiva and Pratt.
