Three Lady Bears Take Home HVWAC Weekly Honors

BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph's College enjoyed a successful week in athletics and were rewarded for their efforts by the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference. The conference announced earlier that Kristen Bauman (Crystal Lake, IL/Prairie Ridge), Erica Brown (Brooklyn, NY/St. Joseph's) and Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) were all recipients of its weekly accolades.

Bauman, a junior, has been named the HVWAC Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Bauman picked up wins at first singles and first doubles, leading the Lady Bears to their second victory of the season, a 5-4 win over Albertus Magnus.

Brown, a freshman, helped the Lady Bears to their first ever cross country victory in team history. St. Joseph's took home first place at the Medgar Evers Invitational thanks in part to Brown's fourth place finish. For her efforts, she has been named the HVWAC rookie of the week.

Matthews takes home her second Player of the Week award for the season. St. Joseph's went 3-1 during the week with Matthews leading the charge. The senior averaged 10.8 kills and 11.8 digs over the four game span. She posted a double-double in all three victories with the highlight coming in the Lady Bears' first conference match against Pratt. Matthews notched 17 kills, 11 digs and four service aces in the win.

Also joining the awards party are Darcy Crimi (Glendale, NY/Christ the King), Iqbal Husain (West Palm Beach, FL/Palm Beach Gardens) and Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's). Crimi was named HVWAC Honorable mention for tennis and Husain and Mangan were each honorable mention in men's and women's cross country.
