Cornia Named HVWAC Rookie of the Week

BROOKLYN, NY – Lady Bear Sabrina Cornia (Miller Place, NY/Miller High) has been named the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) Rookie of the Week for the week ending October 24th. This is the second time this season Cornia has been recognized for her outstanding play.

The sophomore setter completed a six-match week in which St. Joseph's went 3-3. Cornia recorded her first two career double-doubles and posted 148 assists to lead the Lady Bear offense. She also tallied 51 digs, 13 kills, ten service aces and six blocks for the week.

Cornia's week was highlighted in a win over Mount Saint Vincent Saturday afternoon. She set a career high with 13 digs and six kills and also notched 32 assists in the four-set victory.

Last week's HVWAC Player of the Week Kim Matthews (Brooklyn, NY/Bishop Kearney) put up another impressive week and was named to the Honor Roll. Matthews landed 66 kills to go along with 76 digs including a career high 19 kill performance against Mount Saint Vincent.

The Lady Bears conclude the regular season this week with matches at Yeshiva and at home against Staten Island before the HVWAC Championship Tournament this weekend. St. Joseph's is looking at either a #2 or #3 seed in the tournament hosted by New Rochelle.
