Four Named to USCAA All-Academic Teams

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Four student-athletes from St. Joseph's were honored for their academic achievements during the fall season.  Mike Cundari (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's), Hannah Darnell (Nashville, TN/Siegel ) and Joanna Marciniec (Glendale, NY/Baruch) from cross country and Kathy McCarthy (Breezy Point, NY/Fontbonne Hall) from women's volleyball were recently named to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National All-Academic Teams.

In all, seven St. Joseph's College student-athletes have been named to the National All-Academic Teams for the fall season.

In order to be eligible for the USCAA All-Academic team, student-athletes must be a sophomore or higher and maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5.

Cundari, a sophomore ran in four races with a season best 39:13 at the Lehman Invitational. Darnell, a junior, also ran her best time at the Lehman Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park, with a 5K time of 30:32. Marciniec, a senior ran in four races with her top time of 30:15 coming at the Lehman Invitational.

McCarthy, a senior outside hitter, played in 23 matches and accumulated 122 kills and 193 digs, ranked third on the team in each category.

Marciniec receives the honor for the third time in her career, while everyone else is a first-time recipient.
