Three Lady Bears Named to AD3I All-Independent Volleyball Teams

OVERLAND PARK, KS – After leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team to their first winning season in three years and a runner up finish in the Hudson HVWAC Championship, Kim Matthews, Megan Moran and Sabrina Cornia were recently named to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent Volleyball teams.

Matthews was the Lady Bears' top offensive player and was named First Team All-Independent as an outside hitter. The senior from Brooklyn, NY led the Association in kills (3.26/set) and was ranked second in digs (3.60/set). Her 0.74 service aces per set also placed her 21st in Division III nationally. Matthews recorded a team-high 11 double-doubles and was named AD3I Player of the Week for the week of October 24th. As a rookie last year, Matthews received All-Independent honorable mention recognition.

Moran was a valuable two-way player for the Lady Bears and was recognized with a First Team selection as a middle blocker. The sophomore from Syosset, NY finished fifth in the Association in digs (3.26/set) and sixth in kills (2.26/set). Moran led the Lady Bears with 26 blocks and was second on the team behind Matthews with 50 service aces. As first time selection to the All-Independent team, Moran recorded her first two career double-doubles this season.

Cornia, a rookie sophomore, was the Lady Bears primary setter and named to the All-Independent Second Team. Cornia finished with 570 assists, ranked number two in the Association, and accumulated 171 digs and 39 service aces.
