Cornia Earns USCAA Setter of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - After dishing out 77 assists and directing the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team to a 2-0 record last week, Sabrina Cornia (Miller Place, NY/Miller) has been named United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Setter of the Week.

The junior setter averaged 8.56 assists per set over a nine-set span.  In a five-set come-from-behind victory over higher-ranked King's College (NY), Cornia recorded a 38 assist, 15 dig double-double along with a career-high three blocks. Cornia followed it up with 39 assists in a four-set victory over Staten Island, also adding seven digs and three kills.

It is the first time in Cornia's career to receive the honor and the first USCAA accolade to be awarded to a Lady Bear this season.

Also receiving conference recognition was Megan Moran (Syosset, NY/St. Dominic's) who appeared on the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference Honor Roll. The junior middle hitter led the Lady Bears to a 2-0 week averaging 4.3 points and 3.2 kills per set, highlighted by a career-high 16 kills in a four-set victory over Staten Island.

Cornia and the Lady Bears (6-2, 1-0 HVWAC) return to the court on Wednesday, October 3rd for a HVWAC matchup versus conference foe Medgar Evers starting at 7 p.m.
