Matthews Named Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Head women's volleyball coach Kathleen O'Neill has announced the addition of Kim Matthews to the women's volleyball coaching staff as assistant women's volleyball coach.

The 2013 graduate of St. Joseph's begins her college coaching career after a stellar three-year career that saw her earn multiple awards, including being named to the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) All-Independent First Team during her last two years on campus as well as maintaining a place on the Hudson Valley Women's Athletic Conference (HVWAC) All-Conference Team in each of her three seasons.

Matthews was the Lady Bears' top all-around player during her three-year career finishing with 685 kills while posting a .134 hitting percentage, with 209 assists, 162 aces and 842 digs.

During her three years in Brooklyn, Matthews helped lead St. Joseph's to improved win totals in HVWAC play as the Lady Bears went undefeated in conference play during her senior year and captured the regular season title.

Matthews has two years of previous coaching experience having coached the 14- and 15-year old National Teams for Aviator Volleyball Club from 2010 to 2012 during her career with the Lady Bears.

The Breezy Point, NY native received her Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration this past May.

The Lady Bears open their 2013 campaign on Friday, September 13th at Cooper Union with a start time to be announced.
