Women's Volleyball Takes Opening Set From Lehman in Road Clash

BRONX, N.Y. — Crystal Morgan and Samantha Rossi posted career highs in kills and Samantha Cacace recorded a career high in digs as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) jumped out to an opening set victory before dropping a four-set decision on the road to Lehman College on Friday evening.

How it Happened

  • St. Joseph's jumped out to an early lead in set one and never trailed, behind the strength of their two middles, Lauren GaNun and Crystal Morgan, who combined for nine kills. The Lady Bears Led by as many as seven, 17-10, before the Lightning reeled them back to tie the set at 23-23 before a Morgan kill that she followed up with an ace gave SJC the 1-0 lead.
  • Lehman responded by taking control of the next three sets early each frame and only trailed once for the remainder of the match.
  • The Lightning struck for 51 kills and hit a combined .172 while the Lady Bears slammed 30 kills at a .031 clip.

For the Lady Bears

  • Lauren GaNun led the attack with 12 kills and a solo block, falling one dig shy of a double double
  • Anna Carbone dished out 19 assists and brought up a match-high 18 digs for her fourth double-double of the season
  • Crystal Morgan pounded a career-best seven kills
  • Samantha Rossi added five kills with six digs
  • Samantha Cacace backed up the defense with a career-high 17 digs

For the Lightning

  • Jo-Marie Aquino led all attackers with 25 kills and a team-best 18 digs.
  • Salveira Gonzalez also finished with double-digit kills with 12.
  • Imani Dubois recorded a 40-assist, 15-dig double-double.
