Alexandra Lilliquist Named Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) head women's volleyball coach Vera Franzese has announced the appointment of Alexandra Lilliquist as assistant coach, joining the team last month. The former Division I outside hitter comes to Clinton Hill following a four-year collegiate playing career which featured stops at Florida International University, Indian River State College, and most recently Long Island University.

Following a freshman season at FIU, where she totaled 78 digs, 22 kills, and 10 assists, the Vero Beach, Florida native transferred to nearby Indian River State in 2015 and led the Pioneers to their first Southern Conference championship game appearance in program history. Lilliquist finished the year ranked in the NJCAA Top 40 in kills (434) and hitting percentage (.312), en route to earning the Conference's Player of the Year as well as NJCAA First Team All-American, FCSAA All-State, and FCSAA All-Tournament accolades.

Lilliquist transferred to LIU Brooklyn in 2016 with LIU alumna Franzese serving as a volunteer assistant coach after her distinguished career at LIU. Lilliquist started 20 of the 30 games she played and helped the Blackbirds to the Northeast Conference Tournament title and a berth in the NCAA tournament. She finished the season with 237 kills, 2.42 kills per set, 226 digs, 21 blocks, 21 assists, and 18 service aces to go along with eight double-doubles.

After redshirting the 2017 season due to injury, she concluded her career as a graduate student in 2018 playing in all 24 matches as the Blackbirds captured the NEC regular-season title. She ranked third on the team with 2.14 digs per set and 13 aces. Academically, Liliquist also placed on that season's NEC Academic Honor Roll. She went on to graduate from LIU Brooklyn with a bachelor's degree in health science with a double minor in psychology and sports science.

Lilliquist's father is Derek Lilliquist; a former Major League Baseball veteran with 17 combined seasons as a pitcher and coach who also won the World Series as a pitching coach with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011.  She currently works full-time as a medical scribe for a family medicine doctor and resides in East Islip, Long Island.

After a season-opening win in Franzese's and Lilliquist's inaugural game as coaches, the Bears will host City College of New York in their home opener at The Hill Center on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m.
