Trio of Guerra, McGinty, Meltsin Tabbed CSC Women’s Volleyball Academic All-District

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's volleyball team placed Rachel Guerra (Kent Island, Md./Kent Island), Jillian McGinty (Glendale, N.Y./Queens Metropolitan), and Rachel Meltsin (Brooklyn, N.Y./James Madison) on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team®. The trio are the first set of Bears in recorded history to earn the honor from CSC, formerly known as the College Sports Information Directors of America.

The All-District® teams, selected by CSC, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Student-athletes must have a grade-point average of at least 3.50, which is not rounded up, to qualify for the team.

Guerra produced a .226 hitting percentage in her lone season on the squad, good for fourth in the Skyline Conference. Her 17 blocks led the team and she came in fourth with 62 kills. The political science major holds a 3.79 cumulative grade-point average.

McGinty led the team with 32 service aces this season; six of which – her single-match high – came in a victory over York. She breaks into the Skyline top 10 with 0.57 aces per set while placing fifth on the team in kills (42). McGinty owns a 3.80 cumulative GPA as a child study major.

Meltsin rounds out the Bears trio on the All-District Team®. Like McGinty, Meltsin also totaled 0.57 aces per set – totaling 31 – while dishing out 297 assists. The navy and gray boasts a 3-1 record in matches where the setter logged a double-double; including 33 assists and 13 digs in a triumph over SUNY Maritime. In the classroom, Meltsin majors in political science and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.82.

Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early January.
