Mangan Wins York College Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. – Senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) became the first woman in St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) women's cross country history to win an invitational meet, capturing first place at the York College Invitational held at Van Cortlandt Park on Sunday afternoon.

Mangan led from start-to-finiah, besting 123 runners over the 6K course in a personal-best 25:47, 25 seconds better than the second place finisher and leading the Lady Bears to a 6th place finish out of 15 scoring teams.

Sophomore Vernon Maddox (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) paced the men's cross country team to a 13th place finish, capturing 57th overall with a time of 34:17 in his first collegiate 8K race.

Junior Kelly McNamee (Glendale, NY/Mary Louis) lowered her personal best at this distance by over three minutes clocking in at 30:15 in 27th overall.  Junior Melissa Morrice (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep), junior Dalixy Solis (Bronx, NY/Bayard Rustin) and sophomore Lauren Conter (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) completed the scoring for the Lady Bears finishing in under 38 minutes.

For the men, freshman Thomas Rushin (Ocoee, FL/Ocoee) knocked two minutes off his personal best, crossing the finish line in 36:15, 76th overall. Senior Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) also shaved three minutes off his career low, finishing in third for the Bears in 38:37. Senior Ismael Dabo (Bloomfield, NJ/St. John's Prep) and sophomore Vinny Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) rounded out the scoring five for the Bears.

The Bears and Lady Bears return to action on Wednesday, October 10th competing in the Medgar Evers College Invitational at nearby Prospect Park.
