Lady Bears Cross Country Takes First, Bears Second at Medgar Evers Dual

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Senior Teresa Mangan (Cleveland, OH/St. Joseph's) captured back-to-back victories finishing in first place and leading the Lady Bears to a team victory at the Medgar Evers Dual meet at Prospect Park last Wednesday.

Junior Joe Mendez (Glendale, NY/St. Francis Prep) and senior Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) finished one second apart the first two Bears to cross the line, pacing the Bears to a second place finish.

Mangan led from start-to-finish, completing in covering the 3k course in 11:32, two minutes better than her nearest competitor, fellow Lady Bear Melissa Morrice (Middle Village, NY/St. Francis Prep). Mangan and Morrice paced St. Joseph's to a 30-38 victory over Medgar Evers.

Hannah Darnell (Nashvile, TN/Siegel), Dalixy Solis (Bronx, NY/Bayard Rustin) and Alyson Chiaramonte (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) would all finish with times under 15 minutes and finishing in fifth, sixth and seventh to clinch the win for the Lady Bears.

For the men, Mendez covered the 3.35 course in 25:03, finishing in fourth overall, and Contant captured fifth place in 25:04. Chris Vargas (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth), Joe Chiusano (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund's) and Vincent Rossi (Bayside, NY/Holy Cross) rounded out the scoring five for the Bears taking seventh, eighth and tenth, respectively.

The Bears and Lady Bears conclude their 2012 campaign on Sunday, October 21 at the Hudson Valley Athletic Conference Championships at Bard College. The men's race goes off at 11 a.m. with the women's race following at noon.
