Cross Country Opens Season at Queensborough Invitational

BRONX, N.Y. — Senior Shannon Doherty (Brooklyn, N.Y./Churchill) and junior Juan Sandoval (Ridgewood, N.Y./Christ the King) were the top Bear finishers as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's cross country teams opened their 2018 campaign at the Queensborough CC Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.

Women's Highlights

  • Doherty covered the 5K course in 28:38.3 to finish in 81st place overall.
  • Maya Bayliss ran a personal best crossing the line second for the Bears in 32:26.8.

Men's Highlights

  • Sandoval shaved over 10 minutes off his best 8K time, clocking in at 33:01.3 in 40th place.
  • Justin Russell posted a time of 43:57.1 to finish second, while freshman George Garyfallos crossed the line third in 50:13.4 in his first collegiate race.

Next Up for the Bears

The Bears are back in action next weekend running in the LIU Post Invitational on Saturday (Sep. 22) in Brookville, N.Y.
