Buchanan and Marina Lead Cross Country at Skyline Championships

MILTON, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) cross country teams participated in the Skyline Conference Championships at the Hudson Valley Sports Dome on Thursday, consisting of 11 member schools for the women and 12 for the men competing against each other for a conference title.

Crossing the finish line first for the Bears in the women's 6K race was Alexis Buchanan (Murrieta, Calif./Murrieta), completing the course in 32:32.3, placing the Golden State native 48th among 94 racers. Buchanan also finished first for SJC in last year's championship meet, with a time of 29:45.5. Following her were Daniella Alva (54th, 33:47.4), and Raquel Ramirez (65th, 35:23.9). Madison Erhardt (75th, 37:38.9) and Valentina Velez Valencia (76th, 37:41.9) rounded out the top five for the Bears, who placed 10th as a team.

Finishing the race first for the Bears men's squad was Christopher Marina (Astoria, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy), who completed the 8K course in 34:33.7, good enough for 55th place among 115 racers. Christopher Tracy followed shortly after, clocked at 34:47.8, placing him 61st, while Alejandro Oliveros (37:10.7) finished 75th. Justin Hermosa (103rd, 42:40.7), George Garyfallos (107th, 43:41.2), and Michael Kowlessar (113th, 47:02.6) each contributed the Bears ninth-place finish, their best since joining the Skyline Conference in 2015.
