Sarji Collects Third Skyline Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week Honor; Bourne Earns Honor Roll Selection

NEW YORK — Jennifer Sarji (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fontbonne Hall Academy) of the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) women's cross country team was named Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. This marks Sarji's third Rookie of the Week accolade this season and the first since September 19. Additionally, Danielle Bourne (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) featured on the conference's weekly honor roll.

Last Sunday, Sarji completed the Queenborough Community College Invitational in a time of 29:11. Having reached the 30-minute threshold in each meet this season, it was the first time since the LIU Fall Festival in which the freshman finished a meet in under half-hour.

Bourne earned her first weekly honor roll for the first time this season. She was the first Bear to cross the finish of the 5k Van Cortlandt Park course, placing 54th (28:30).

Sarji's and Bourne's finishes led to a 13th-place finish out of 16 competiting teams. The tandem, along with the rest of the cross country teams, are scheduled to return to the course on Saturday, October 14 as sister school St. Joseph's (Long Island) hosts the SJLI Invitational from Sunken Meadow State Park. The meets are scheduled for 11 am.
