Alyson Chiaramonte, a pitcher/outfielder on the Lady Bears softball team, graduates as one of the most decorated athletes in St. Joseph’s College history.

Coming out of Moore Catholic High School, Chiaramonte originally had plans to play at Division II Dowling College on Long Island.  After spending a semester there however, she transferred out and made her way to St. Joseph’s, looking to be closer to her family in Staten Island, and the rest is SJC history.

Chiaramonte has led the Lady Bears to over 100 wins over her four-year career, the most victories by a graduating class in any Brooklyn sport, and behind her pitching the team has qualified for four straight United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Softball National Championships, including a school-best third-place finish in 2010.

Most of the team’s success can be attributed to her as she has rewritten the softball record books, the all-time leader in games started (140), innings pitched (502.2), wins (63), shutouts (29), lowest ERA (1.24), strikeouts (653), and hits (180).

Her senior campaign has been her most dominant, compiling a career-best 1.04 ERA, 16-6 record with 11 shutouts and 186 strikeouts.  Chiaramonte tossed back-to-back perfect games this season, her third and fourth of her career and is the only Lady Bear to ever pitch a perfect game. She also adds three additional no-hitters to her impressive resume.  Of her six losses, five had been decided by only one run and the sixth by two runs.  Chiaramonte was ranked among the Division III leaders throughout the season, and at the conclusion of the regular season was ranked in the top 10 in three categories – highlighted by her fourth place ranking in shutouts and fifth place ranking in hits – and in the top 20 in six categories.

Not to be overlooked is her prowess at the plate, the team’s leader in batting all four seasons, batting .433 this season.  Chiaramonte was also tops this season in slugging (.692), home runs (3), hits (45) and extra-base hits (18).

In addition to her numerous Player and Pitcher of the Week selections, Chiaramonte was a four-time Hudson Valley Women’s Athletic Conference (HVWAC) All-Conference selection, a four-time Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) First-Team All-Independent selection, the AD3I Player of the Year in 2010, the AD3I Pitcher of the Year in 2011, and a four-time USCAA All-American, the first St. Joseph’s student-athlete to ever accomplish that honor in any sport.
